Is this normal? Used to do them myself and can't remember this problem.

They look like new again but there is a horrible musty smell. They were cleaned Monday and obviously have had the heating on to dry them out.

Thinking I need to phone the company but don't know if this is normal and the smell will go?

wet dog smell?

it wasn't one of those rip off companies was it that they showed on Watchdog.

Did they use a detergent?

FeathersMcGraw · 02/03/2011 21:57

We had ours done last year and the smell was

The guy that did them warned us that if the carpets had hessian backing then they would smell more than foam backed.

The smell did go away after a few days Smile

No local company recommended by oven cleaner Blush

We have a dog and DH has blamed him, apparently its the smell of dog coming out of the carpet ?!?! lol, but he hates the dog lol

They are hessian backed so the smell is normal then? Shame he did not warn us about it - mind you cream carpets, dog and ds would still have had them done! just have to burn loads of smelly candlesWink

oh good, glad you didn't get those rip off people. i guess it needs to totally dry out, and then you will smell the difference. fingers crossed.

We have an old carpet in the girls bedroom, with one still having the occational accident when she doesnt get to the loo in time and the other crawling we thought best get it cleaned. It stank for about 3-5 days after but the smell went and it now smells fine :) Think its just normal.

MogadoredMemoo · 03/03/2011 13:50

Oh op thus happened to us too, we ended up having to replace the carpet! Shock

eeyore2 · 03/03/2011 15:39

Totally normal.
Have had carpets professionally cleaned twice and there is a funny smell a bit like a dog which goes quite quickly.

Indaba · 03/03/2011 22:03

normal...it'll go away

Lillyofthevalley · 04/03/2011 10:01

Thanks all Smile

Its seams to be not quite so strong now thankfully - give it another day or so and I think it will be gone. Typical just wasted spent £6 on Yankee tarts yesterday aswell!

What a great post from Warrington carpet cleaners :)

PoopyPanda · 13/08/2017 11:31

@wccleaners you reopened a 6-year-old thread for that piece of advertising? They've probably bought new carpets by now! 😂

cherryblack · 13/08/2017 11:42

Or moved Smile

We had to have a carpet cleaned after dh knocked a whole tin of gloss over it when we were decorating ds's bedroom. The smell lasted for a few days. We left the window open (ds wasn't here at the time, he stayed with his grandparents). We didn't need to dry it though, it wasn't too wet.
