Londoners - how much are you paying your cleaners?

My old cleaner wanted £8 per hour and needed 4 hours to do the work

Just met a possible replacement who wants £10 per hour and reckons the same work will take her 5 hours!

Actually, you are a cleaner with a big chip on your shoulder.

Shock (again)

No I'm not. I have always held onto the belief in the sage old adage 'be nice to people on the way up, because you will meet them on the way down' however. And if a customer is rude to me or treats me shabbily I ditch them.

I was talking with one client about what sort of degree his son was thinking of doing at University and I said that if I had my time again I would do something more vocational than an English degree. He said very sniffily 'love, you didn't need to bother with a degree at all doing what you're doing'.

His wife, bless her, looked hugely embarrassed. I ditched them the next day. Life is too short and pleasant customers in desperate need of a damn good cleaner too plentiful, to be treated like a moron.

We can't afford it any more, but when I (v sadly) had to let our lovely cleaner go, she filled the hours instantly, in fact I believe she has a waiting list! She charges £11.50/ hr, cash, and we're in Sussex.
And I'm not surprised; she's fab.
She also has sacked clients who took the piss, and quite right too. She does a good job and expects respect, as do we all at work, I hope.

Unlikely

You sure you're happy with what you are doing because you sound very bothered by other people's opinions....slightly manic tbh?

Ginabraz · 11/03/2011 15:24

I used to pay £10 per hour for 3hrs and she was ok but unreliable. I now pay £8ph for 4hours and am happy as she also does the ironing when she finishes the cleaning of 2 bedroom, kitchen, landing, bathroom.
