...what do you do with all your shoes?

We keep ours in an unruly pile. I am investigating alternatives and would appreciate any thoughts!

TIA!

We've got a downstairs loo by the front door so I've got a shoe rack tucked in there

COCKadoodledooo · 02/03/2011 09:52

We have a crate in the corner of the hall - current use shoes only! Everything else is in wardrobes upstairs

MrsPlugThePlumber · 02/03/2011 10:01

a crate, you say?

So could a big basket might suffice? I secretly hate those wall-mounted ones that look like drawers but swing down, they din't hold much, do they?

Tallullah, wish we had a loo! The shoes are taking over.

I have a little storage bench with a cushion to sit on and 2 wicker baskets to keep shoes in. I bought it from amazon.

midnightexpress · 02/03/2011 10:31

Marking my place. I have a pile too. We have a storage bench thing, which is lovely, but it's mostly drawers and two wee cupboards so I still need somewhere to put all the shoes, especially DP's galumphing great clown shoes size 13s.

COCKadoodledooo · 02/03/2011 10:33

Yep, it's literally just one of these - holds a couple of pairs for each of us. Mud must be cleaned off first though! Basket would be fine I'd say.

Agree with you about the wall mounted ones, which is why we don't have one!

wfrances · 02/03/2011 10:33

everyday shoes go in under stairs closet,in a large wicker trunk.
others in wardrobes.
ive got a porch, but shoes left in there are my pet hate.coats fine -shoes and school bags/ no/

ragged · 02/03/2011 10:39

2 shoe racks: one for DC by kitchen back door, adult one under the stairs. Box under the stairs, too, for spare wellies, skates, jodpur boots, etc.

BiscuitNibbler · 02/03/2011 10:50

I had the same problem, and so have just bought a large basket from Ikea. Has done the trick, as it also limits the number of pairs I can leave there!

MrsPlugThePlumber · 02/03/2011 10:58

How big is the lidan basket, nibbler?

OP posts:
BiscuitNibbler · 02/03/2011 12:56

Sorry for the delay - it is 33cm long and wide and 40cm tall. I have managed to get loads of shoes and a couple of pairs of boots in it. I was pleasantly surprised.

MrsPlugThePlumber · 02/03/2011 13:24

Oh sorry Blush just noticed the dimensions are hidden on the website. Thanks! Perhaps IKEA is the key.

That's ok! I bought a coat stand at the same time, so now my hall looks tidy for the first time in years. Apart from the toys strewn along it, obviously...

Mumi · 02/03/2011 13:50

Shoe rack in the cupboard under the stairs for everyday shoes, shoe boxes in bedrooms for the best ones.

CameronCook · 02/03/2011 13:59

Under stairs cupboard along with lots of other crap that gets shoved in there

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/03/2011 19:57

3 door shoe cabinet we have holds 9 pairs of shoes and sits flush to the wall so it's only 6" deep.

nailak · 02/03/2011 20:06

cupboard under the stairs, along with coats umbrellas etc

thisisyesterday · 02/03/2011 20:08

dp hacked a hole in the wall, fitted shelves and LO! a built-in shoe rack Hmm

ChasingSquirrels · 02/03/2011 20:58

I have <a class="break-all" href="http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250683722238&ru=shop.ebay.co.uk:80/%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dm570%26_nkw%3D250683722238%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1#ht_3128wt_911" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this by the front door and the boys have a drawer each.
My shoes go in the cupboard under the stairs.

ethelina · 02/03/2011 21:01

Him: Neatly side-by-side in the bottom of his wardrobe except for the workboots which are in the utility room by the back door.

Me: Great big muddled heap in the cupboard under the stairs which falls out every time the door is opened

ethelina · 02/03/2011 21:02

not admitting to the 40 empty shoeboxes in my dressing room specifically to hold all the shoes in a pile under the stairs, oh no, not me sir Blush

whoatethelastbiscuit · 02/03/2011 21:33

Rectangular wicker basket in porch from Ikea for dirty wellies, muddy shoes etc while dry off (theory is when dry will be cleaned and put away), all the others ... under beds. Big dd's shoes in box's on top of wardrobe while at uni to stop little dd playing "big girls", pity they didn't hide the make-up!

squashedfly · 07/03/2011 14:33

I have a wicker basket that has a hinged lid (£10 from Asda) which has worked well as you can fit a fair few in but it isn't as ugly as a plastic box and the lid prevents over filling etc. Family of 7 so LOTS of shoes, only one pair kept in the basket each - others are kept in wardrobes.
