Vinegar plus newspaper or a microfibre cloth? It's good enough for me anyway!

Yup - microfibre cloths are the way. Quick wipe and it's done.

I remember my mum spending hours waiting for a day that was neither too wet nor too sunny before getting out the windowlene and taking all day...
