How to steam clean a sofa?

I have a dark coloured suede sofa which is now a few years old but is otherwise in good shape. However I would like to give it a good clean as the arms and other odd bits are looking a bit grubby.

Would a steam-cleaner do the job? And if so what kind of thing do I need to hire? Do I do it in the room or do I have to get someone to drag it outside? And does it leave it wet afterwards - and if so how do I dry it out without it going stinky? AND finally - can I also use a steam cleaner to clean my hideously dirty oven out while I'm at it?

As you can see I know nothing about steam cleaning - so would really appreciate some words of wisdom!

bump, because I have a filthy sofa too (mine's linen/heavy cotton though).
