Radio/CD/MP3 player

We need a new radio/CD player for the kitchen. I'm convinced (ha!) that I saw one in a magazine which had a slot on the top, into which you could stick your MP3 player, but can I find one now? Can I buffalo. I'm not keen on the ones where the MP3 player connects to the radio with a lead - I want one that actually slots in.

Does anyone have one? Or know where I can find one?

What kind of MP3 player? Is it an iPod or similar?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 22/02/2011 16:53

Yes, it's an iPod. I said MP3 player because I thought that was the generic term. I am a techno-dummy, hence this thread!

Just wanted to make sure!

not sure how much you wanted to spend but like this?

Ooh. That looks very covetable - I've long hankered after a Roberts radio - but I was hoping for one which also played CDs and (being greedy now) cassettes, as DD has a favourite tape which she listens to every day. I can find all of these things combined if the iPod connects via a lead but was really hoping to find one without the trailing-and-likely-to-get-lost lead, where the iPod just plugs in.

I'm wondering whether I imagined the one I 'saw' in the magazine!

Google Ipod Radio Docking, there was a bunch of them!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 22/02/2011 17:08

Yes, I've been trying again with the word "dock". I've found a lot more but (not very surprisingly) it's the cassette bit that now seems the problem. I suppose most people don't want/need such old technology combined with their iPod!

Probably true!

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 22/02/2011 22:42

Wish I could help, but we don't do technology here. Not even got a mp3 player.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 22/02/2011 22:45

Well, as you can see, Serpent, I'm struggling. I think looking for a cassette function is akin to looking for a wind-up gramophone!

I have just sent a black sack of cassettes to the bin/charity shop. Sad

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 22/02/2011 23:03

Most of ours have already gone that way, but Girl has a treasured tape. I 'spose I should just add one small bit to landfill and look for it on cd.

::sigh::

Or download the various bits and make your own cd? If it is a 'mix(ed) tape'. Those were the days. Come back to the tea room and advise on entertaining extremely spoilt girls who have everything and are allowed everything. Although I do need to go to bed with an eau-de-cologne-soaked hankie on my forehead.

I do not have an ipod etc but do REALLY WANT one of these:

It is just soooo romantic and earthy and real!

Thus I have some deep sympathy for your trust in tapes.

Good luck in the search!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 22/02/2011 23:26

Don't get me started. I want to live in a palace of Art Deco with one of these on the figured walnut sideboard.

When I was a very small child, there was something looking like this in the workshop on the farm.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 22/02/2011 23:42

Now, you see, we have an old radio very much like the top picture there which is -a hideous piece of junk dragged into the house by The Gardener-- a cherished memento of his family, but it lacks that beautiful art deco sunburst effect.
