Hi - can someone quickly tell me if water coming out of outlet pipe from roof into
means something bad????

More than dripping, not gushing. More like when you turn on a tap slowly.

Surely it wouldn't be the tank????

I don't do heights so can't go up into attic to look

From the pipe that sticks out of the front of your house? Like an overflow thing that's about the size of a £1 coin in diameter and about 6" long?

yep

I had that. It dripped for weeks before I got around to doing anything about it Blush. And only then when my boiler broke down and I had to get a plumber out anyway.

Turned out to be one of the ballcocks in the water tank. Was completely buggered. He charged £60 and took about half hour and did it there and then. And it was only that much because he'd come out to look at the boiler, couldn't fix it and wasn't even going to charge me a callout fee. Then when I asked him to do that, he had to bung the callout fee onto the repair.

Would have been much cheaper to have done it myself. Could your husband/partner/dad/friend have a look at it? You can buy the parts from Wickes or somewhere for under £20.

But don't worry! It needs doing/looking at, but leaving it til later in the day/week likely won't matter.

The ballcock could just be stuck temporarily so try running a bathful of cold water first then as tank refills it might just dislodge and it will save a call out.

TobyLerone · 15/02/2011 12:31

Yes. Or it could just need a little shove. Your dad will know. Mine was just totally corroded.

vintageteacups · 15/02/2011 12:33

off to run the bath now - thanks girls (or guys)
