dh cooked last night.
he used the wooden board we use to cut the bread to gut and filet the fish Envy=boak
I scrubbed the board with washing up liquid yesterday but it still smells fishy.
it is a nice big wooden board/block type thing and I don't want to throw it away...
is it possible to get the smell out?

Have you tried a mix of bi carb and lemon juice? Or either? Vinegar? Essential oil? Zoflora?

Was going to suggest bicarb and vinegar, bicarb will get the smell out. I use it on carpets when DD2 dicides to wee on it, on the bed when she wees in there and in the toilet. Should think it would do job on fish lol.

I went at it and scrubbed it last night with baking powder and vinegar (no bicarb at hand), but it is still fishy. not as bad, more of a faint fish smell.
repeat tonight? or should I get a new board?

I think I would get a new one as I would always be thinking it smelt fishy, even if the smell had gone!

Is it an expensive wooden block one? If not expensive then yes I'd replace it.

If you want to keep it maybe try sprinkling with bi carb and leaving it on overnight?

mousymouse · 15/02/2011 11:10

yes it was quite expensive, one of those 2 inch too heavy to throw at dh hardwood blocks.

Keep at it and it will go, keep re-oiling it too. Dont chuck it if its a good 'un

this morning it was fine again.
thanks for all your help.
it lost all its softness though.
I oiled it and hopefully we can use it for bread tonight.
