...there is a fishy smell!!! it's in the kitchen, but absolutely nowhere near any food. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing it? do you think it could be a mechanical problem? it's 26 years old in case that's relevant. TIA.

fishy smell could be burning electrics. We had a fishy smell in our toilet and it tunrned out there were crossed wires in the light fitting that were slowly fizzing away.

Given your TDs age, it's possible that something is going seriously wrong. I'd be wary of leaving it running if I wasn't in the immediate vicinity and get it seen to asap.

I've just googled fishy smell and electrics and got lots of hits.

OMG, I have this! I thought my mum (staying here Biscuit) washed something the kids had dropped some fish dinner on.

what amke of drier is it? so I can buy one when mine gives up the ghost. Anything that has lasted 26 years has got to be good Grin

Oooh! thank you! and Oh nooo! I desperately don't want it to go wrong. I wonder if I could get it looked at before something does go wrong.
Crispy, all I can say is this: They don't make em like they used to. I had all my appliances for donkeys years before they gave up the ghost. The only thing I've never had any luck with is irons Hmm
