I'm finally getting there with DD's room (I think)

So her room has been a tip, basically since New Year. She has had friends up a few times and they pull everything out and tidying up means shoving everything to the side to make a 'fire path'. However I have spent most of yesterday and today totally sorting every single thing into various containers - Barbie-type dolls, bouncy balls, dolls house furniture, vehicles etc all in their own boxes. Still have a huge pile of unsorted stuff but now but now have places it can go. Now, I just need to keep motivated for a couple of nights this week and it should be done Have also managed to get rid of a big bag of stuff sneakily and have a big tub for selling! It is in the 'worse before it gets better' phase but I would recommend this to anyone with a tip of a child's room - I feel so much better - now just the rest of the house to go

I started trying to sort out my ds's bedroom today too.
I have removed 3 binbags full of toys to be donated.
I bought some underbed storage boxes from argos and have put all puzzles in 1 and all animals and people figures in the other.
Like you, I expect to spend a bit of time in there every night this week

It's great isn't it? I fear I may become a bit anal once it is all sorted - been totally the opposite for so long if I finally manage to get it sorted I think I'll spend a lot of time twitching when DD has friends up at the thought of all my work being undone

We do this and my secret weapon is the 'no home drawer' for things that don't fit easily into other categories eg McDonalds toys, bits from party bags etc. You do have to watch that it doesn't get stuffed with complete junk though! Having the toys in their own boxes definitely helps with keeping tidy and is very satisfying for anal mummies :)
