old wool carpet with sticky stuff on, help!

I was vaccuming today and i noticed some black stuff on the carpet (hard as its heavily patterned but im sure it wasnt there 2 days ago or even yesterday). Looks like chewing gum but most likely to be sweets how can i remove it?

The carpet is a 1969 wool carpet made locally for our house, with it being so old theres not much of a 'pile' to it. Can anyone help?

do you have baby wipes? works for a lot of things

No we dont use them we use washable wipes, saying that its Pretty trodden in think whoever the criminal was who dropped it has tried to cover up the evidence so i dont think a baby wipe will touch it!
