Please help me stop my bin dancing around the kitchen...

It's very petty but very annoying. Our big Brabantia bin seems to take itself off for a walk around the room several times a day.

I am quite embarrassed about the extent to which this irks me but I am also fairly close to have a large bin-sized hole in my kitchen window.

If anyone can prevent either of these things happening, I will be forever in your debt/send you a virtual glass of Wine (but white, so it won't stain when I accidentally spill it passing it over. I have learnt something lurking here... )

TIA

You can buy rolls of 'rubber fabric' that is designed to stop slips.
It is cuttable to the desired size, so you could buy a roll and cut a piece the size of your bin to go underneath it. It would stop it slipping.
It's quite strong stuff. I have it under the legs of our sofa to stop it slipping across the tiles when we sit on the floor and lean against it. (Please don't ask why we sit on the floor against the sofa rather than sitting on the sofa!!)
Anyway, it works and you can buy it in DIY shops.

have I earned myself a glass of wine?

TheVisitor · 04/02/2011 18:36

I'll second the rubber fabric. We use it underneath our Kenwood chef when making bread.

stewmaker · 04/02/2011 18:38

I HAVE THIS PROBLEM TOO!!!! and it really really annoys me!

The bin keeps being pushed back in the gap between the side and the cooker where I can't get at it!

grrrrrrr

rubber fabric it is then, as long as it is easy clean Grin

RuthChan · 04/02/2011 18:39

Yes, stewmaker the stuff I have says it's machine washable.

madamimadam · 04/02/2011 18:56

Ah! You are all lovely! I came on here all ready to bump in a 'Cherry-Manlove-would-know-the-answer' way. And here you are! And you've solved what is quite possibly one of the biggest niggles I've had for ages.

Ruth, it's not for me to question why you sit on the floor - here, have a Wine. In fact, just on what you've saved me in glazing alone, have Wine, Wine, Wine

And you too, The Visitor: Wine, Wine, Wine (Well, it is Friday night, after all...)

And Stewmaker, can I indicate my virtual drinks cabinet? Something with ice and lemon perhaps? Or more vino? Thank you for not making me feel like a loon.

I'd pass round a virtual tray of nibbles if I could.

God, I bloody love MN. I've asked everyone I know in RL and they've all looked at me as if I've been hitting the gin.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend. (We will. We won't have a dancing bin after tomorrow morning Grin)

madamimadam

You have made my evening by allowing me to make yours! :o
I do like making people smile and it's lovely to feel useful on MN rather than getting in petty squables about things!

I only wish we could all share our Wine in RL!

madamimadam · 04/02/2011 19:30

Well, Ruth, you're my new domestic guru!

And if you are ever in Surrey, PM me and I will magically transform the virtual glasses into real ones. And then show off my non-slippy bin Grin

(Might have a bit more trouble summoning up the fairy coach, but give me some time and I'll work on it Smile)

Ooh, lovely. :o
[Checks diary for opportunity to go wine drinking in surrey...]

madamimadam · 10/02/2011 12:05

Yes. Wine-drinking in Surrey - it's like Salmon-Fishing in the Yemen, except even less eventful

Sorry not to have popped on here sooner - DS has had bad cold so not had chance yet to get magic mat. But I am so glad to know the solution!

I didn't come on with any advice, just loved your thread title- and then your whole post made me chuckle. So thanks for cheering me up! Smile

Glad you have it sorted and have put Baby Brabantia in the corner.

mistressploppy · 10/02/2011 14:48

Just popping in to say Madamimadam, I think I love you, you are Most Cool.

madamimadam · 10/02/2011 15:04

[blushes] Oh, thebountymuncher and mistressploppy, you've made me colour right up.

But you realise this means we can never go wine-drinking in Surrey? Sad The illusion of Cool would be blown wide open when you met me. Dancing bins are least of it.

PMSL at 'Baby Brabantia', thebountymuncher. You've actually christened our bin (At least we'll call it that when it stays in the bloody corner...)
