Smelly Waste Pipes

Can anyone help with a 'recipe' to cure smells from the waste pipe when the washing machine & dishwasher are draining? they both run into the same pipe. Have tried several drain & sink unblockers/cleaners to no avail, have also run dishwasher & washing machine cleaners through them twice in the last few weeks. I can cope with the smell, but if we have company and the smell starts, it's quite embarrassing Blush

bleach down the plug hole?

an empty load on a HOT cycle with each machine?

soda crystals are my mum's answer to anything - they have instructions on them.

does it happen when they machines are both on? if so it might be the waste water creeping back up again as it can't cope with 2 lots of water. when we had our dishwasher installed we had it share the waste pipe with the washer. the guy advised us not to run them both together for that reason.

Hi soppypreggyloon.

Thank you for the suggestions, but have tried bleach, and the hot cycle for each! Doesn't only happen when both machines are on - was stinking this morning with just the washer when I was typing the OP! Soda Crystals - worth a try, you have reminded me my mum used to swear by them too! Are they readily available, never bought any myself?
