People's experience with new kitchen installations

Hi we're hoping to install a new kitchen before our baby arrives, so want to minimize the work/stress levels as we don't have time to install ourselves; thinking of going with B&Q to install (though it's more expensive than we thought). What have been other people's experiences of buying kitchens & installations through B&Q, Ikea, and sourcing other tradesmen to fit? Any recommendations? We're based in Cambridge.

Best to get a firm that you can buy the kitchen from and get them to install it for you.

It's v difficult to source the right tradesmen at the appropriate time. For example get an electrician in for an afternoon then get the plumber in for two days and then the electrician back for one day etc. It will take for ever and drive you mad!

We used B&Q even though they were a bit more. We had so much trouble prior to that getting tradesmen to turn up (especially for the small jobs).

Using B&Q means we know we can change the doors in a few years to change the look. Othe companies will probably do the same, though.

B&Q can usually install or can give you some names of tradesmen who will - easier to use them as they will arrange delivery/sort out lost items, synchronise work and generally troubleshoot and so on and are used to fitting the B%Q kitchens. Organisng your own plumbers, carpenters, tilers can be a nightmare

My DH fits kitchens now and again and he's the one who project manages electricians, plumbers etc. Property maintenance companies might be able to organise it, including a discount on the kitchen itself. Howden do reasonably priced kitchens.

Thanks everyone for your advise. We spent a lot of time thinking about it and believe B&Q will be the best option for us.
