The freezer defrosted on Friday, but it doesn't seem to be refreezing

The freezer door got left open and quite a bit defrosted on Friday. I cooked it all up and put everything from the fridge into it.

I noticed yesterday that my Ben and Jerry's hadn't set, but thought maybe it just hadn't been in long enough, but it's even softer today. So I checked and some meat in the fast freeze bit at the top is still not frozen. The stuff in the bottom drawer that didn't defrost still seems to be fine.

Any ideas for what to do?

I've never had a freezer crisis before. There doesn't seem to be a temp control anywhere on it.

Thanks!

err - you did switch it on didnt you?

Is it in your garage by any chance?

It's on. Fortunately I'm not quite that much of a muppet (though I did have to check).

It's in the kitchen. What would the garage do to it?

Last year the freezer in our garage stopped working, I got the engineer out cos it was still in warranty and he said that the garage was too cold Apparently new fangled modern freezers have a thermostat inside them, that senses if the air outside that swooshes in when you open the door is colder than the freezer temp, then it switches itself off. Sure enough, it came back on again all by itself around mid March! It tried to do it again this year but I'm wise to it now and there's a little electric heater on its lowest possible setting pointing at the freezer door. This probably seems mad, but at the minute that freezer is crammed full, as I was on on a soup making, lasagne, shepherds pie frenzy a few weeks ago - and I'm not prepared for all that food to have to be chucked out just because Princess AEG is feeling a litle chilly Grin

OMG 2blessed, that ridiculous! How bizarre Confused

It's inside and the flat is pretty warm on account of our 3 month old.

Dad's coming round to check it over. It's out of warranty so I guess we'll be replacing it.
