airing baby's mattress

So how often are you supposed to actually air the crib mattress? What do you do? Do you take off sheets and covers and stand the mattress upright in the cot as my mother used to? If so how often do you do this? Where is it written how much and how often the wretched thing needs the air?
Am I a complete grub for not airing the mattress for days on end?

I strip sheets in the morning.

Up end the bugger in the cot and leave it until 3 minutes before bedtime when I think OH SHIT and quickly ping a sheet back on.

And by 'the bugger' I mean the mattress, not the baby. Just to be clear.

Do you do that every day Squirrel?

I changed DS cot every day, mainly cos he puked a lot, but only 'aired' it weekely perhaps less often

FlyingSquirrel · 15/01/2011 18:03

Not every day, only when I remember every week without fail.

I change the sheets weekly/when they have wee on them (whichever comes first) and then air the mattress all day. Then, like FS, panic make the bed while DP baths DS.
