Cleaning and moving house

We are hopefully moving house soon and I'm after advice on when to clean properly.

I'm a dirty slattern bit relaxed about cleaning and I want it to be decent for the new people, not least because we are only moving across the road so they will be our neighbours!

So, what to do - clean before packing, then clean a bit more after everything's in boxes? Will there be time to do this on 'Moving day'? Pack up a day early to clear the decks for cleaning? I'll probably enlist our cleaner to help, so I need to figure it out in advance....

Having just moved house - my advice would be normal cleaning up to move day and then a 'deep clean' when the house is totally empty. I stayed on for a few hours after boxes all gone - amazing how much you find under sofa/behind pictures etc. Getting a cleaner to help you would be money very well spent IMO!! HTH

Moving day is pretty stressful already but if you're just across the road then that is helpful in terms of the fact you're not having to drive back and forth between old and new homes.

When we moved out of our last house I paid our cleaner £100 and she brought her Mum and her Mums friend and deep cleaned the house, including all the kitchen cupboards and windows. It was the best £100 ever spent as I just didn't have the energy to clean old house and unpack new house.
