What's best to get a small bloodstain out of a carpet?

One of the pets bit the pet sitter while we were away over Christmas (oops...thankfully the sitter is a good friend and wasn't mad!) and as a result there's a splodge of dried-on blood on my living room carpet. The sitter didn't notice it at the time or he'd have cleaned it up but the carpet is quite dark so I can see how he missed it. Not sure how to go about getting it out, any tips?

When I had my carpets cleaned - the chap doing it said for spot cleaning use some 'Dreft' washing powder (special woollens powder which I think I got in sainsburys) diluted with some water in a sprayer - spray it on, and massage (not rub/scrub) in with your finger, then blot dry with kitchen roll.

I would imagine that it would work well on blood.

I'd use Dreft or toilet soap with lukewarm water then dry before rinsing and drying again.

Biologocal washing powder, made into a paste and rubbed in then blotted off.

Also Ozcleen Carpet Power is incredible.

Vanish (the pink one) works well on blood.

Use milk. Pour some milk on it, leave for a couple of minutes and then rub. Make sure u wash with carpet shampoo afterwards

I dont know if this works but I heard that spit / saliva from the person whose blood it actually is is a really effective way of removing a blood stain.

This might not be such a useful tip if its not a family member spitting on the carpet as you'll have his blood AND his saliva to deal with !!

Haha RunforFun's advice made me crack up - I've never heard that, are you for real?! Also there's actually a good article on www.arearugs.com about how to best take care of (and clean) your rugs/carpets. Good luck with the stain Naoko!
