vinegar for cleaning

Which kind of vinegar do they mean in the recipes people give you for making your own cleaning products - bathroom sprays and the like?
Is it white wine vinegar or just the regular malted stuff. White wine seems very expensive...

I use plain white vinegar, available from chemists, some ironmongers etc and not expensive. It's neither malted nor wine, but malted will usually do if you can't find white.

Its just plain white
Malt works but the smell is much stronger, so mostly people use white- its also called distilled vinegar and is (for e.g.) 56p a litre in Tescos
