Extra rinse on washing machine, do I need to use it?

My DH tells me that extra rinse on modern washing machines should always be used otherwise won't be properly rinsed and stains may be less likely to come out. Is this right? I've never thought of using it.

No, modern machines rinse as many times as needed as most will 'sense' how much foam remains.

I never use it on mine :)
