Whirring Peugeot!

Sorry I wasn't sure where to post this...( - is there a car section?)

My Peugeot 206 whirrs. Always has done. I think it's engine related although it doesn't change tone if the revs are up or anything. It sounds like the car is electric really - that kind of whirring.

The garage guy said he'd have to take it all apart to see what the problem was - other than the noise there is no problem - it goes fine.

I've done 55K miles - do you think I need a new cam belt? Would that be it?

Any ideas anyone?

dh says this is really common, have one in right now with the same noise!

Could be the alternator (most likely)
or the fan belt tensioner bearing or maybe a cambelt tensioner.

Hope that helps.

That's top, thanks for asking your DH! I'll get the garage to look at those parts! Smile
