How to get encrusted vaseline out of fabric?

Is it even possible?

Hoping to use DD's old baby chair for DC2 due in 6 weeks. Just pulled it out of storage and it has a lovely big patch of old yellowed encrusted eczema ointment all over it - ointment was something hideous called 50:50, basically heavy duty vaseline. I thought I'd kept it clean Sad.

Any ideas what I might be able to use to rescue it? It's quite hardy fabric.

Rub with soap and then use a steam cleaner.

Thanks - of course, a steam cleaner! Trip to Argos in the morning then.

Why don't you ask on freecycle if anyone has one you can borrow or have - they are the sort of thing people buy and then never use!

Very true! I might just do that.

Vaseline is oil based so you may want to try something that has a degreasing agent in it. I'd try neat washing up liquid but something more heavy duty may have better results.
