Help...carpets and weird stains

I hope someone out there can assist me with this - it is driving me insane Angry

I had a new carpet fitted to my hall, stairs and study a few months ago. It is a lovely chocolate colour and is 80% wool.

About a month after we had it fitted it started to show some orange stains, in places where no-one can remember having spilled anything or mopping something up. I have tried lifting the stain to see what might be causing them but cloths come up clean - the carpet seems to be bleached (that is the best analogy I have). We have a cat and two dogs (both immaculately house trained) and two kids. My husband thinks it is spilled tea which is causing the stains but they have appeared in some places where we would never have a cup of tea.

Has anyone had any experience like this - I am thinking about phoning the carpet company and asking them but I thought the boards may be more useful.

don't know if it could bleach things, but maybe salt being trodden in from the roads/paths?
do you wear shoes indoors?

other than that i've not a clue!

Thanks Really, we thought that too - but there is no pattern or stains near the walkways which I would expect...

Looks like it may remain a mystery!
