modern lighting shops

I'm suffering seller's remorse after stupidly selling a nice lamp. I thought it didn't give off enough light but actually it was on reflection good for where I needed it.

So where is good for modern (not stupid money) lighting? Online or shops (I'm in London)

I've nosied at Habitat and John Lewis but it's rather uninspiring.

Apols, have lived abroad and am a bit out of touch.

ikea's a good bet- they have some beautiful stuff if you spend slighlty more than 'budget' prices iyswim

What sort of light are you after? Table lamp, standard lamp?

I'm after a table lamp for one spot I don't want a harsh light from it, just to light up the corner. I'm also looking for a standard lamp maybe one of those arc ones as I need it to fall over our dining table (no ceiling roses and those godawful halogen ceiling lights that make us look like we're sitting in a police interrogation room)

Floor/standard lamps: I have a very classic supersized Artemide Tolomeo in my sitting room, which is great for light over the sofa. Also a Flos KTribe F.

Both make good table lamps too.

Over my dining table (which mostly serves as a computer/library table), I have a double-armed Tolomeo, hanging from where a ceiling light is wired. It looks great and serves its purpose very well, but we bought it to go with our quite contemporary library-style light oak table, which also has a bench rather than chairs down one side.

The light I sold was a table Flos. I wish I hadn't sold it.
The Tolomeo looks great, I would need to see it in the flesh.

Any good lighting shop does lots of versions of a Tolomeo - I bought some of mine at the Conran Shop. Artemide also has showrooms.
