Recommend me a washing machine

Have had my wonderful Bosch for about 16 years. Still going strong, but want to replace it before it breaks down and floods my kitchen, rather than after.

Ar Bosch still waht they used to be, in terms of quality. I heard that some machiens are made in Spain now, not Germany, but not easy to find out which models. Or should I switch to Miele or AEG, both of which scrub up well in Which (etc..) reviews.

All thoughts welcome, please!

We've got several washing machine reviews here you might find helpful.

I bought a Hotpoint WMD962G from the co-op before christmas that I think is fab, but then my last one was leaking for years and only took a small load so anything is an improvement. I cannot tell you how it will hold up over time, only that so far its doing an average of one load a day and its great. 8kg) It has enoough settings to keep me happy, a decent spin, and a child lock which is really useful for the 13 month old who likes pressing the buttons...

My Bosch is 10 years old and still going strong after cloth nappies, DH works on buildings sites, and does a lot of sport.

I read once that the way to tell the difference between German and Spanish Bosch machines is by where the door hinges are. Check which side they are on on your old Bosch, and that is the German side.

I have a friend whose Miele machine 28 years old and has done 3 sets of cloth nappies!

I am also in need of a new machine as my Hotpoint Aquarius did the pogo and died a few days ago. It wasn't that old really only about 6 years old. The repair man said not to get a Hotpoint or Indesit as they are not what they used to be and are fairly rubbish these days (sorry lynniep!).

He recommended a Bosch machine so i have been looking at them. I also like the look of a Candy machine. Anyone have any dealings with a Candy machine?

Go for Bosch - we've had ours for the past 12 years and still going strong!

I had a Bosch for 13 years and really had no complaints. it still rates very highly. I have recently replaced it with an AEG which I am delighted with. It also gets good reviews. I chose it because I liked the large drum size and can wash a double duvet in it. To be honest there wasn't much to choose between them (Bosch & AEG) but we got a special deal with John Lewis and they included the 5 year warranty for free with the AEG so we went with that. I like the fact that I can see how long is left on the wash cycle but I think many newer models do that (I can only compare to my out of the ark model!)
