Sofas

I am looking for a new sofa as our 10 year old, cheap, cream crap one is minging. Ive seen all the nice glossy DFS ads on the tv but i really think its out of our price range Hmm

Our family is quite large so im looking for either a 3 and a 2 seater OR a corner sofa and chair. I think our budget will only cover fabric and it must be a dark colour (pref blacks and greys). Also DP hates cushion backed sofas so must be a solid back but can have scatter cushions over iyswim.

About £600 budget any ideas?? We have a 8yr old, 3 yr old and 7mth old so pref easy clean lol.

We thought that two but went or it as they had the years free and then interest free for 3 years, we bought 2 armchairs, 4 seater and a 3 seater sofa and our repayments were £70/month so yours will be much cheaper.

IME DFS sofas are way too big for the average house - they look smaller in the vast showroom than they actually are, iyswim.

Ikea's are smaller & sensible prices.

\link{http://www.sofasofa.co.uk/\sofasofa} are mail order only I think (maybe 1 showroom?) & good prices too - you would def get a 3+2 in fabric for c £600 from them (maybe not black or grey, but with removable washable covers)

\link{http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/50051619\2-seater Ektorp in brown leather, £349} - they don't seem to do it in a 3-seater though

dietcokesholidaysarecoming · 27/12/2010 15:34

We are the same- small budget with similar requirements. Really would prefer leather.

Won't get credit so am considering second hand options. A new sofa would need to be modern looking to update our room.

you could look at Argos too (their website is v slow to load):

still has back cushions though - most of them seem to Confused

they are offering 24 months interest-free if you get an Argos card & pay with that.

(Back cushions again but nicer style than that Milano) (IMO!)

Have a look on ebay. There are lots of sellers on there with new suites. We recently purchased a leather 3 seater with 2 single seater chairs in chocolate brown leather. It cost us £800 delivered.

Doing the job with a 2.5 year old running around/all over it.

peachybums · 27/12/2010 19:38

Thanks everyone i quite like the argos ones but a few people have warned us off them saying they tend to go lumpy or hard after a while so im a bit unsure. DP says he def wants fabric im still unsure, Will look on ebay later thats a good idea thanks :)

Ikea do fabric ones as well, the covers are removable for washing, comes in a dark grey/black sort of colour, lots of other colours as well.

Are the ikea ones comfortable? Always thought they would be hard and low.

We have an Ikea one and it's great, very compact. We have a bucket chair to go with it. Needs a good clean though but it is cream Hmm Dp had it before I moved in. Mine was a leather suite which I loved.

peachybums · 28/12/2010 19:41

Yer i was telling DP about the ikea ones but he reminded me of the one we had before our current one (was ikea)it was horrible and rock hard, you only had to sit on it 5 mins and was crippled.

Anyone know if they improved?

Maybe it depends on the style - certainly the Ektorp ones feel v comfortable in the shop, but you need someone with long term experience!

CointreauVersial · 28/12/2010 22:16

Another vote for sofasofa - fab value - we bought two Charlottes from there 13 years ago and they are still going strong despite daily use and abuse from 3dcs (we did have to invest in new covers a few years back, though).
