This is totally weirding me out - please tell me what's going on!
We have a normal sized double bed.
We have a "double" duvet which is maybe 15 years old. We also have a "king sized" duvet about 10 years old which we use in the winter.
I have happily bought various "double" duvet covers over the years which have fitted our "double" duvet very nicely. Ditto various covers labelled "king sized" (latest one was from TK Max only last year) for our bigger duvet.
I decided to order a double duvet set from thewoolroom.com, as I do find I've been getting sweaty (memory foam mattress) and I was also hoping for a duvet I could put in the washing machine (these wool duvets being much thinner you see).
I ordered their standard double (they only do single, double, king, super-king). I noted that these were 200cmx200cm, checked various places online that this was the standard double size, but neglected to take a tape measure to our existing covers.
So the thing arrives today (thankyou brave DHL man in the snow) and I try putting our double duvet cover on - doesn't fit! Our "king sized" cover, however, fits beautifully (as does the mattress cover), and when I take a tape measure to it it does in fact measure exactly 200cmx200cm. Whereas the "double" covers I have are more like 175cmx190cm.
So have sizes suddenly changed in the last year, has there been duvet size inflation or what??
The Woolroom people did say you could fit their double duvets in a standard washing machine (they were a lot less sure about their king-sized), but I just had a go at stuffing it in - it does go in, but with no room to spare. Maybe I should try and weigh the thing... What are your thoughts?
Thanks!
