If you are on a gas meter, how much do you use a week?

Hi, we moved house a few months ago from a house with electric heating to a house with gas heating, we have a gas meter and it seems to be costing us a fortune, i know its extra cold at the moment so we are using it more but its costing us twice as much as the other house.

How much (roughly) do you pay for gas each week/month?

Would it be better to get rid of the meter?

we pay by dd and this has just gone from £100! per month to £55. Try our best not to use too much although tricky with current weather, this is also our cooker hob..it has gone uo a bit over the last few years.

We seem to be using £25 a week and our oven is electric so just the heating and water (3 bed house).

i have one, it was already here when i moved in so haven't bothered having it changed, also i like to see what i'm spending rather than suddenly having a huge bill after getting carried away with feeling the warmth. this time of year i'm normally putting £20 on and i'm hardly warm. i'll have the heating on for about an hour in the morning and then about 3-4 hours in the evening. i live in an 1800s house with a cellar and very cold loft so that could be why my house is chilly. over the summer its about £5 a week or under as i have a gas hob and the hot water.

Thanks roastedfox, maybe i'm being a bit greedy with the heating , the heating in our old house was rubbish (night storage) so i'm enjoying the nice warm house.

I use around £15-20 per week in the winter but I'm lucky that I only use the gas for hot water from the tap and heating since we have an electric shower. I have debt with Swalec and so for every £10 they take off £7.50 for debt which is ridiculous and I'm in the process of asking them to lower this amount for the winter since we've worked out we'd be spending around £30-35 per week on gas alone through this winter period!

Only use gas for heating and hot water from taps as electric shower here too.

I have a combi boiler, gas fire and gas hob. I use as little as £5 in summer, but this week have put £30 in. You will really be better off getting rid of the meter.

my bill was £68 for the summer quarter but i have already used 2.5 times that thid quarter. get the bill just after xmas

We have gas central heating nad a gas hob and am curently using £20 per week and also £20 per week on electric

op,the meters dont get replaced for free.....it costs around £60 here to switch from a pre payment!!

sadly gas pre payment meter's cost more as you are charged for the rental of the machine as well as a higher unit cost.

we would normally use about £10 per week but at the moment its about £15-20.

dreading the gas and electricity bills for this quarter. Ive left my heating on all night with this cold weather as i dont think it is cost effective to turn it off. what does anyone else think. managed with my downstairs radiators on no 1 all day and upstairs on frost setting. turned them up once DS2 got home from school

hello £40 /week and that is for 2 bed house at the moment...however dont really use it in summer so averages out. am also using loads of elec as the tumble dryer is on more. cant have a cold house as have 6 month old crawling baby so cant keep her contained in blankets although she does wear fleece babygrows!

I have gas central heating (3 bed end of terrace) and a gas cooker. In winter (i.e. this deep snow, heating on loads) we go through £15 a week. In summer £3 a week.

I have a 3 bed house with gas central heating and the cooker is electric they take about 6 pounds off the meter every week and im using about 40 a week with the debt i feel this is way too much i have to have the heating on as i have a child who is autistic one that suffers epilepsy and a 7 month old baby. It is such a real struggle and it gets me down

3 bed house, gas central heating combi boiler, heating on constant due to stripping autistic boy and I pay £16 a month on DD.

I have a pre pay gas meter and at the moment in this extremely freezing weather I am averaging about £4.50 a day. I have two old knackered boilers (one for heating one for water), no double glazing, and draughty doors and windows. So about £31.50 a week at the mo but it is very very very cold out.

We were paying £160 a mth DD and still having a bill to pay at the end of the quater. Just swapped and now paying £90 and thats still a lot as we only live in a 3 bed bungalow lol

we have a very small 3 bed house and i've keeping a close eye on this lately. day 1 when i started i had my thermostat set on 15( i only need it at this as its in a cold hall so if i set it any highter my rooms are baking)
i had heating on constantly from 6.30am until 9pm it cost me £4.59 for that day.(i didnt use gas cooker this day)
the next day set at 15 still i had it on from 6.30am-9am
then it was off in day and back on 4.30-9pm
i used the cooker for 2-3 hours this day too
this day is only cost me £2.54.
day 3/4 roughly the same cost
so it does make a big difference having it of in the day. we never have heating on at night.
so it will cost me roughly £17.78 a week if no heat on in day apart from stated times
or £32.13 a week if i have heat on.
this is a lot of difference! just keep an eye on it, turn your thermostat down it will make a difference

I live in a 3 bedroom house and I've got a pre payment meter and I put £40 a week in my gas meter and I only have got radiators and heating water and I only have the radiators on for about 2 hours a night can anybody advise me what to do cause I think this is scandalous
