Cleaning a wooden floor

The floor has not been varnished or sealed but needs a clean before I put some sort of seal on it. What is the best thing to use? The cleaning stuff I have looked at in the supermarket says not for use on unvarnished floors

I would use hot water and washing up liquid. Not too harsh but should do a good job.

Depending on the type of floor, for example if it is a Kahrs floor you can buy Kahrs floor cleaner which is very good, you only use very little in warm water, mop the floor with a dryish mop and then dry floor with old towels.

For other wooden floors, like old floor boards, I use Pledge wood floor cleaner (Homebase tends to sell it, some Tescos too), again I would dry the floor after mopping.
