Please help me find a striped carpet for my stairs.

We have decorated the hall, stairs & landing. All woodwork is white & the walls are a york white which is a bit grey/mag. The floors are now dark wood & the mirror & wall decors are silver framed, black & white.

I need a tough carpet, with 3 growing children the stairs carry a lot of traffic but I quite fancy something with a stripe.

Any ideas where to find a decent & affordable carpet please?

Try John Lewis. I was in there at the weekend and they had quite a few stripy carpets.

I was going to suggest this placeuntil I read your last line.

They do some gorgeous ones but I think they are £££££££s I'm afraid.

I like these, what do you think?

Oh bloody hell Norbert. You had to go and post that link, didn't you! I now really want one of their runners on my stairs. Angry. It's all your fault that my daughter will have to starve and wear clothes that are too small......

Ponders · 17/11/2010 21:58

I was just going to post this link to alternative flooring!

\link{http://www.alternativeflooring.com/flooring/sub_detail.asp?catrgory=1&range=40&subcategory=1\some really nice ones}

I would love a stripey stair carpet but we have 1 odd step at right angles to the rest at on to the landing. Which way would the stripes run? Confused

TheSleepFairy · 17/11/2010 22:05

pounders I can see your point, you might end up a bit cross eyed going up your stairs Grin

ooh, have a look at \link{http://www.gocarpets.co.uk/carpet/candy-stripes/\go carpets} too - they reckon to be cheap

\link{http://www.gocarpets.co.uk/carpet/candy-stripes/essentials-wool-candy-stripe/\this one's £15.99 a sq m!}

Crucial trading's mississippi range is nice www.crucial-trading.com/en/Floorcovering_Details.aspx?rid=180

TheSleepFairy · 17/11/2010 22:15

Typically I like the £33 sq m one.

this one in black/coffee

Are you sure?

I think striped stair carpets have had their day.

How about being really different and going for something plain and classic?

Striped stair carpets are the huge limestone bathroom tiles and white gloss kitchens of their day imvho.

Ponders · 17/11/2010 22:22

I like that range too & at least £33 is much better than crucial trading's own price (£54!)

MortaIWombat · 18/11/2010 07:01

Are you in the SE? Our local carpet fitters here are lovely, and I noticed they had in several striped runners when I was in there last month.

NorbertDentressangle · 18/11/2010 15:16

Littlefish Grin.

You could always send her out to work to raise some cash for your stripy stair runner and then feed and clothe her if theres any money left over. Wink

TiredMoon · 26/06/2011 13:18

Has anyone got a picture of their carpet?

We are waiting for this striped carpet to arrive!

Can't wait to get rid of the old green thing we have down at the moment :)

patindahat · 26/06/2011 17:19

united carpets have stripey carpets prices from £4.99 to £9.99 a square metre. they have shops throughout the uk.

reikizen · 26/06/2011 17:22

what a timely thread, I'm in the market for a striped stair carpet. I didn't realise they had had their day though (don't actually know anyone who has one!)

bessie26 · 26/06/2011 19:04

Next had some nice stripy carpets, no idea about price or quality though as didn't look that closely. We've still got to decorate the lounge before we can do the hall/stairs/landing (dark wood floor with stripy carpet and limey green walls)

ebbandflow · 26/06/2011 19:09

I also think that they will date really quicky, remember really liking them when they started appearing in Ideal Home magazines in about 2004.

MrsSharp · 26/06/2011 19:12

For good quality 80/20 wool carpet in a stripe Try brockways vogue collection, or Adams kasbah stripe. There Are also a couple of stripes produced by westex, but a bit pricier. Best thing would be to go to John Lewis and a local independent flooring retailer and get them to quote on a few options.

Is your staircase straight, or do you have winders? You can still have a stripe on winders, but even more important to get a good fitter.

SparkyToo · 27/06/2011 05:32

There's plenty of contemporary stair runners to choose from at Roger Oates. Also worth giving them a call to see whether there are any discontinued designs where the stock is available at a discounted price.

69redshoes · 22/07/2012 02:02

Shall I stay with twist or put stripped carpet down on the stairs and landing?
