woodworm in ds's new/old desk

I've bought ds(5) an old school desk off ebay and the chap delivered it tonight. When it arrived I noticed a group of holes in one corner and asked the seller if it was woodworm. He said he had owned it for 7 years and hadn't thought anything about the holes or seen any more apperaing. Being the sap I am I gave him the cash and off he went.

Now I've looked properly there are about a dozen holes in one small area, then random holes close by.

Is there anything I can treat it with to avoid having to get rid of it and breaking ds's heart. He is really pleased with it and has wanted one for ages.

Im really sorry , but id get rid of it . Im not sure what you could use to treat the wood.

We had "antique" bedroom furniture....was art deco style wooden wardrobes. Unbeknown to us the furniture had woodworm. We had it for a couple of years.
It spread to our exposed wooden floorboards.

I honestly had no idea there was anything wrong with the furniture until i kept finding little black beetles.(what the woodworm adults are)

After i phoned out pest control , i discovered it had spread to the floor in the bedroom . The fact we had painted floors in the hallway had stoped it spreading anymore.

It was very expensive to fix , and we had to have new floorboards put in.

chuck the desk out .

thanks, dh has just got back from work and said he's going to ring the chap tomorrow and tell him to come and collect it. I've put it in the outhouse as we had all new oak floors last year and had to have the house treated before we moved in for woodworm upstairs.

I'm a bit naffed off as he did know about the woodworm and I think he really should have mentioned it in his listing. Instead he put that it is in "really great shape!" erm no, it isn't.

Thanks for your reply. I was suppose I was daft even considering giving it house room. Looks like ds is going to be disappointed!
