Coffee Pod Machine - which one ?

I'm thinking of buying a coffee pod machine. I work part time so only drink coffee perhaps a cup a day when I'm at home if that. As a result, fresh coffee from a pack would probably go off quite quickly so am thinking that the pods would be better ? I know they work out more expensive but maybe not given the amount I'll use it ? Plus I don't have a few hundred quid to spend on an all singing all dancing one....
If you've had a pod one, which one ?

We have the Senseo machine at work. We are on our 3rd since about 2005 ish.

Considering the amount of use it gets, It doesn't do too bad. They are designed for occasional light use, not 5 or 6 people having 1 or 2 coffees per day.

The Coffee pods will still decline in taste with time. There is a definate difference between the last one from an old pack and the first from a new pack (but then I don't have an airtight container to put the open pack in, which won't help).

The senseo's do need an occasional clean to stop the build up of coffee residue (mostly on the pod holder and spoout). But fortunately it's not to difficult to take to bits theat need cleaning apart.

I love the Tassimo one

TheSkiingGardener · 15/11/2010 09:37

If you want filter coffee then the Senseo is fantabulous, and if you keep the pods in a tin they stay fresh.

If you are after latte/cappuccino then we did a test at work and the Dolce Gusto won hands down over the Tassimo in all areas. Much, much nicer. Only downside to those machines is the milk is not fresh.

Senseo do a latte machine that takes fresh milk but I haven't tried it.

DH has a senseo machine (I don't like coffee).

He has awful trouble getting hold of the pods for it these days, so I think it may be being phased out.

I tease him that he has bought the 'Betamax' of coffee machines Grin

TheSkiingGardener · 15/11/2010 09:44

Really thenightsky, they are in all the shops here, at least as much as other pods are?

Are pods going to turn into an internet purchase at the end of the day?

thenightsky · 15/11/2010 10:42

He can occasionally get the pods in Waitrose, but more often or not they have a notice on the shelf saying 'not in stock'.

He is going to have to start buying them on the internet or change to a Tassimo I think.

My local Sainsbury's sell Senseo's. Pretty sure they are in Tesco's too.

But there are plenty of internet stockist (including Amazon) and they tend to sell in bulk too.

just buy some cafe direct macchu picchu and a cafetiere

Rohey · 16/11/2010 18:53

We have just got the Dolce Gusto... Excellent!

I would highly recommend it.. The coffee/hot choc etc is not soo hot so you can drink asap...

A doddle to clean too...

I have the Lavazza Amodo Mio (sp). I really like it - it is compact easy to keep clean. it took me a little while to get used to using it but now fine. It is a bit noisy - are all machines noisy?

The coffee is fab - realy nice and hot. Only makes coffee though - no hot chocolate option. It also has a milk-frother which I don't use much.

Like other posters with other machines I have had problems getting the pods - not at my local tesco, sainsbury or waitrose. Have managed to order on line in bulk.

Carameli · 24/11/2010 21:39

I have had a tassimo since May and I love it to bits. The suchard hot choc is fab as is the cappucino and the basic coffee. There are quite a few different teas and coffee etc to choose from. It is easy to clean and I use it every day.

BigChiefOrganiser · 28/04/2011 23:39

We have a nespresso. They do a thing which whips the milk and heats it for perfect cappucino. You're not tied in to their pods if you want to use your favorite coffee. Www.nexpod.com make pods to fit so you can fill your own.
