My husband is an ARSE

Years ago we had an argument about dishwashing so he went out and bought a £250 dishwasher (without telling me). Said dishwasher has been sitting in the bedroom for 3 years now. Turns out DH didn't understand that he did not posess the skills to install it and says it apparently costs £100+ to get a plumber to install it.

What to do?? Angry

You can't possibly have had a dishwasher in your bedroom for three years.

If you have, you deserve each other and it and should all be very happy together.

Wrap it up with a big ribbon and give it to him for Christmas. Use the money you would have spent on his present to get as plumber to fit it.
It's all he deserves.

Either sell it if you don't want it or pay to have it installed.

personally I would have paid to have it installed - it's not a great display item in a bedroom.

Sorry, my first reaction to this is 'yeah right'. As if.

You took three YEARs to get out of him ('it turns out'????) that he cant install it? And that the plumber costs are an issue? Surely after THREE YEARS you would have been able to save £2 a fortnight to get the money to get it installed???

tbh I wouldn't have let it sit there for 3 years - in that time you could've quallfied as a plumber yourself

I bet it's not as hard a job as you think - have you looked at the instructions? And chances are you don't need a plumber, you need an odd job man, who will be much cheaper.

if you've not mustered up the money for a plumber in 3 years, or found a friend who could help plumb it in.. Dh has managed to plumb our integrated dishawsher in and he's not a plumber... then i am a bit Shock

have you continued to argue about the diswashing for 3 years. and why would it be in your bedroom?

I could install a dishwasher and I am somewhat bookish and wholly uninterested in plumbing. I installed a cooker recently. How hard can it be? You do it. Otherwise, man up and delegate.

Hullygully you made me lol to the point where DH heard and I told him that I posted this on MN. He has a face like a smacked arse.

Dueling - would it be worth selling on eBay for local pick up or would it go for something crappy like £50?

invisibleink - what can I say, we're disorganised.

SOH - I'd love to install it myself. But to install it we have to rip out several kitchen drawers, etc. And I'm exhausted looking after a 3 month old full time to the point where I can barely string a full sentence together let alone follow DIY instructions.

Can you move your washing machine somewhere else (garage? bathroom?) and stick the dishwasher where the washing machine is?

Depends what you want more the draws or the dishwasher (says someone who has indeed ripped out a cupboard to make space for a dishwasher. Honestly it was easy enough, no brute force needed, just a screw driver)

Pass baby to DH. Rip out cupboard. Bring dishwasher downstairs. Phone plumber..(I paid £75 to have mine done). Time spent approx 3 hours. Time saved 1 hour per day? Its sooooooooo worth it! I've even had one plumbed in 'temporarily' on a random spare bit of floor.

Ebay it: you are likely to get a reasonable price, especially if never used, still packaged and have the booklets/paperwork.

Use the money to buy yourself something nice.

I say until he actually installs it himself, or arranges its installation, he can all the washing up. Every. Last. Teaspoon.

I can't believe this!! I installed my dishwasher myself only last week including fitting the the door for the integrated unit. The instructions are soooooooooooooo simple my 10 year old could have done it.

Why can't you fit it?? Why do you assume it's your DH's job??

Oh I hate doing plumbing- always convinced it will go wrong and flood the kitchen

I am usually right too Blush

Go to local shop and find a handy man and get them over to fit it
It will be worth it.

I am assuming that Amy's DH kept procrastinating and saying specialist parts were needed or he would do it another weekend and has finally confessed he is never going to do it as he has no idea where to start.
Is that about right?
