Argument - toaster on top of breadbin

We have a lovely looking breadbin with a chopping board lid that stuff gets dumped on rendering it a waste of time&space. So I want to replace it with a Brabantia fall front one so we can store the toaster on top.

My husband says it would be dangerous to use the toaster nearer to the bottom of the wall cupboards. It's only 18cm high and my ONLY worry would be that it would damage the bin with it's weight.

We argued. Naturally I would like some (read "lots of") people to tell me I am right and he is wrong.

Please help!

I wouldnt put a toaster on top of anything as the things underneath will get covered in toast crumbs and would get very messy

hmmm, I'm afraid I'm with him...

Have you tried touching the underneath of the cabinet above the toaster while the toaster is on? Mine gets pretty hot even with the toaster on the counter, think it might be a fire hazard to have it higher? So I'm afraid I'm with your DH on this one.

agree with dh, what happens when you burn the toast??

Darn it! Ok, I'll listen to you all - and pretend to him that he convinced me!

I just hate the waste of space! Maybe I''ll put the fruitbowl on top of the breadbin then...

Why not store it on top of the breadbin but take it down when you actually use it? There's not much gap between the top of our toaster and the wall cupboards above so I always make sure I pull the toaster out from under them before using it.

We had our toaster on the counter under the side of a cupboard, and the side of the cupboard went brown!

brockleybelle · 12/11/2010 20:41

I certainly wouldn't have a toaster any higher than counter level!

SuePurblybilt · 12/11/2010 20:43

Have you considered putting the toaster on top of the bin but on its side? For maximum cupboard safety Grin

If you begrudge the breadbin counter space why not wall mount it?

SuePurblybilt · 12/11/2010 21:00

Or take up macrame and suspend it from a ceiling hook?
