Cleaning a ceramic hob

Can anyone help with tips on cleaning tough stains on a ceramic hob? I have been given a new (ish) one to replace my rubbish one but it was previously owned by a male friend and cleaning wasn't his forte Smile

I have tried oven cleaner, cif etc but some residual stains remain - any tips?

Try a specialist ceramic cream? Astonish do one. If there's still some burnt on stuff, you could try scraping very gently with a ceramic hob scraper (loads on ebay) which has a blade.

I often wonder why they are called 'ceramic' when in fact they look like they are made of glass. I have one, and it now looks like it could use the blade treatment, but am a bit worried in case I scratch it. Will watch this with interest.

You can buy Hobrite, special hob cleaner. I think it has some sort of mild acid in it and it feels very slightly grainy. Works well on my 20 year old ceramic hob!
