Shag pile carpet- good or bad idea?

Thinking about getting one for the living room but I'm worried about maintenance & cleaning. Anyone recommend them or not? Thanks.

One immediate thought is - dust mite heaven - yugh! There is enough space for dead skin, dust mites and their poo to hide in normal carpet without giving them more space.

If it weren't for that I would say 'what fun'. Haven't seen one since I my friend's house in 1978 when we were watching Borg in the Wimbledon final!

Friends had one, in their living room. It was ok (they are super clean) until the toddler threw up in it. Then that was the end.
