I need new knives, have never had decent one, basically can probably get one that will mostly be used for chopping veg and the odd bit of chicken.

Also need veg peeler all mine shite so use my not quite so shite knife.

Kitchen Devils are quite good. You probably want a paring knife for your veggies.

sabatier. argos had them in the sale recently - 20ish pounds for set with knifeblcok. obviously get a knife sharpener too. mine have lasted for years and are still sharp

I second Sabatier knives, have had mine for a couple of years and they're great.

The best veg peeler I've ever had is actually the Basics one from Sainsburys. Its' so sharp I wear a rubber glove on the hand holding the veg after peeling my skin instead

sabatier set currently £23 for 5 knives at argos. my first set has lasted about 25 years (except for 1) and i've bought this set a couple of weeks ago - its great - a bargain.

Global, pricey but will last forever. Love mine.

Sabatier are good - but there are different ones, so its not necessarily everything with Sabatier in the name (mine are P Sabatier which aren't bad, MIL has Stellar Sabatier which are OK too). I've got a few Global knives but not been all that impressed for the price - end snapped off one (could've been DH trying to use it to prise apart frozen crumpet) but still needs regular sharpening. I've got a Victorinox knife - with nylon handle and actually that's probably the one I use most. And its not too pricey at all.
