Hi, Can anyone recommend a really good carpet cleaner please. I bought a Vax which was a complete waste of money as it didnt clean very well the suction didnt exist I had to use as sponge after cleaning on spots that it didnt touch.

This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for product recommendations, we’ve recently updated our guide to the best carpet cleaners with lots of options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users and editors. I really like my Bissell Aromapro. I don't use their solution as its very expensive, but it does a great job on carpets and upholstery. Quite expensive but I shopped around about 2 years ago and got it cheaply on 'Kaleidoscope'.

I have a bissel proheat 2x and it is fantastaic. oosabeauta, what soluntion do you use? I agree that the bissell shampoo is very expensive. I havnt tried using any other shampoo though

Well, I'm a bit daring with mine... Started off buying the Vax solution from Sainsbury's (about £7), then Astonish carpet solution from Savers (about £2), now I tend to make a little solution of Flash All Purpose with water, or just some disinfectant with water. Have even used bleach with water to do the porch carpet and it came up a treat. Maybe don't try that on a prized carpet just in case...

i use vinegar and water in my bissell. great for neutralising smells.

if the carpet is really grim i add a few drops of stardrops first and then rinse with vinegar and water solution.

i haven't bought carpet shampoo for years. bissell say not to use anything but their shampoos - hasn't done my machine any harm, think it's about 7/8 years old now.
