Vomit smell in carpet

snugglejunkie · 05/11/2010 10:40

DS did an uber-vom on the lounge carpet about 3 days ago.

Dispite a thorough scrubbing with a bit of fairy liquid and vanish carpet spray stuff & spraying area with febreeze, there is still a distinct aroma even though it's now totally dry.

Not lovely.

Any tips? I think I've heard that bicarb of soda is useful, but not sure what to do with it. Do you make a solution? Sprinkle on powder on wet area, or sprinkle on dry? Does it even work? Or should I resign myself to repeat scrubbing/drying cycles?

Tis really wiffy and right puts me off my choccy biccies so I clearly require emergency help...

bicarb is amazing!

mix it to a thin paste with lots of water & rub it in - leave to dry - vac out - smell gone Smile

I have used bicarb, but just sprinkled it on dry - worked a treat.

Bicarb even works of you put tea spoon in a dessert bowl, add water and sponge the area with that. Is marvelous stuff.

alfabetty · 05/11/2010 11:01

if you put a tea spoon full in a bowl....

Bicarb is terrific, I use it dry and then vacuum up a few hours later. Also: a bowl of cider vinegar placed near to the niffy patch (a foot or two away is fine) and left there overnight, magically seems to absorb or neutralise the aroma. I have NO idea why that works but it was recommended by an MN-er and it really does the job.

Neutradol comes in a powder form and it worked on the puke smell in dh's car (courtesy of dd). We sprinkled bicarb on as well so it could have been either (or both) that worked.

Oh my god - I have literally JUST dabbed a pasty gloop of bicarb on the offending/offensive area and BAM. No smell. Even close up nose-to-the-floor stylee!!

Holy shiz - why has no one told me about this before?!!

Thanks all Grin Grin

I still remember the first time I did a nose-to-carpet - I couldn't believe it either!

They should put a box of bicarb & an explanation in Bounty packs Grin

Agreed!

Where's that 'top tips' thread that was knocking around a while ago - I want to evangelise!!
