Smelly dog - bicarb the carpets the answer??

We have a dog. She's smelly. I love her, but she's smelly. She's groomed regularly, but she's a farty old thing. I can't stand the stink!

Fortunately my downstairs is wipe-clean! Wooden floors etc. However, I'm sure the smell of her is clinging to the carpet on the stairs and upstairs.

I'm very anti-using products which have been tested on animals, so Shake n Vac's out. I think I read somewhere that bicarbonate of soda sprinkled on carpets, left for a while and then hoovered does a good job of clearing up smells.

Does anyone have any experience of this, please? Any tips would be gratefully received! :)

I have a book about natural cleaning products somewhere, but I can't find it!

Just in case anyone's interested - bicarbonate of soda on carpets works!

I sprinkled fairly liberally; left for fifteen mins and hoovered. Nothing at all to smell now!

So, my next question is - where can I buy low-cost bicarb in bulk?? :)

This site looks quite cheap.
