Hiring a Cleaner

Sorry if this is not the right section - point me to a different one, if another more appropriate.

When I was a child, my parents had a cleaner come round twice a week, to clean. i.e. I remember that before her arrival my mother had to spend all the time tidying the house so that the cleaner could clean.

My question is I would like to employ someone to tidy and clean, do people do this? If so, I'm in the south west, could someone advise how much I should expect to pay for the hourly rate? Also for a reasonably large 3 bed house, how many hours would you expect it to take. I'm thinking someone coming on a Monday and Friday.

TIA

I'm amazed you have no replies.
I would have someone for min. 4 hours a week and expect to pay £8-10 an hour.

Why don't you re-post in chat as loads of people have cleaners on here I'm sure?

Think it depends a bit on your cleaner - mine comes for just 2 hours but she gets a hell of a lot done. If I get home early she's generally slightly puffed and pink in the face so I know she works hard! I pay 10 pound an hour, but she's worth every penny.

Thanks for the replies. That seems reasonable.

I have an excellent cleaner at £7 hourly in my 2bed house,(Yorks) but she is very versatile and helps with almost everything. I'm disabled and so glad to have this help.
Problem with tidying away is being able to find stuff again, and I'm regularly baffled, so it is worthwhile tidying.

Mine doesn't tidy (for me, I know she does elsewhere) because I don't want her to. I am naturally tidy and would resent paying someone to do this. I hate cleaning, and am more than happy to pay for that.
I have 2 hours at £10ph, which pretty much does the cleaning of a reasonably sized 4-bed house.
