carpet cleaning

Our carpets are looking a bit grim now, is if worth hiring a steam cleaner or getting the professionals in? I'm just a bit wary of chemicals from carpet cleaners as I'm pregnant.

We used Rug Doctor a few times and I don't think they used any scary chemicals. In the end though we found it was worth buying a big carpet steamer and doing them ourselves once in a while - only use soap and steam then.

we got a man in to steam clean ours (partly because i am too lazy to do it myself!). he was actually quite reasonably priced which helped. always comes up good, alot better than some of the machines that we have hired ourselves.
Am hoping to buy mt own steam cleaner at some point though, as its bound to be cheaper in the long run.
