Help! Being invaded by ladybirds!

My home office is suddenly full of ladybirds- some with 2 spots, some with many spots. All in the same place and all of a sudden. Does this mean it's going to be a cold winter?

I have the same problem! I hoover them up as I have a phobia of all insects and can't get near them unless armed with the hoover hose. Cruel I know but there are so many it is creepy. This is the 3rd year running and I dont know why they like my hallway so much.

Having the same problem here, no idea why.

loads here too! Must be this 3-day Indian Summer we have been promised Grin

NorbertDentressangle · 08/10/2010 16:15

We had loads last Saturday and earlier this week -both really sunny days.

They were mainly around the outside of the windows on the side of the house that's in full sun, but I had to flick loads off the window frame before closing the windows.

They seemed very varied re: nos.of spots and there were some black on red and some red on black

Six-spotted ladybirds are indigenous to this country I believe, all others are alien and are threatening our population by eating them instead of the aphids they were meant to kill. I think they were brought in as a natural pest control. but are proving to be doing more harm than good Hmm Angry

I have a little cluster that I need to knock down from where the wall joins the ceiling. We had one day last year when we were invaded so if it is a warning of bad weather I'd get stocked up on grit now.

we have hundreds here too, think they're supposed to be looking for somewhere to hibernate, and it seems to happen this week every year.

Oh gawd! I'm terrified of ladybirds! Give me a big, fat, scary spider any day.

We had a real problem with them last year. I googled it and the info said ( if I remember correctly) that they nest under the south facing windows. Anyway got so fed up that I went outside armed with fly spray and sprayed all under the windows that I could reach. It seems to have done the trick.
