Aaargh, I've just shrunk 2 white company tunics

Put them on a wool wash with some other stuff.

They have come out doll's size. Have washed them many times before on same cycle.

Is there something wrong with my machine?

If you have washed them many times before and they have been ok then it might be that there is something wrong with your machine, thermostat maybe? You could always try to take them back but I don't know if you will have much luck if it isn't the fault of the tunics that they have shrunk.

did the wash cycle accidentally get changed to something hotter?

No, no kids in the house to fiddle with dial. Definitely wool wash.
