Has anyone ever filled in a redundant mat well in their house? We're having a porch built and no longer need the existing mat well at the front door but don't know how best to fill the gap. Can't put new carpet down as the hallway one is yrs old and will have faded. Someone told me you can get mosaic tiles in pretty picture designs for doorways - but I can't track any down. Can anyone help, please?

My last house had a mat well, and someone had used light-weight wood to make a block to fit the well. As previous owners had taken hall+ stairs carpet (not agreed but too late to change) I had to recarpet the lot. I think most DIY places will sell ordinary floor tiles, and these will be suitable if the base in the well is firm enough; otherwise I'd look for a rug to look good next to carpet.
