Bugger, the bolier's dead!

Our Co2 detector just went off. That was a bit scary! I think our elderly bolier will now be condemned.

Does anyone know anything about floor standing boilers? I know from previous threads we should avoid British Gas like the pague, any other tips?

That's obviously boiler and plague and CO not CO2...

Are you on benefits? if so there's an organisation called Warm Front who will repair or replace it for you for free I think

No, we're in that delightful no man's land of not actually having enough money to live on whilst not qualifying for any benefits (apart from a tiny amount of Child Tax Credit but I'm assuming that doesn't count in this situation?). Will have to throw ourselves on mercy of MIL for this.

My plumber dh says Ideal and Potterton do good floor standing boilers but he thinks you will probably need to update the whole system if the boiler is elderly, so will be all the pipework etc. Also new boilers sometimes hav slightly different fittings, once you replace one part you will end up replacing the next and so on...

Ethelina, thanks for that. Not what I wanted to hear but at least I'm prepared if that's what the plumber tells us.

Sorry. You might get away with just a new boiler if the rest of its not that old. Fingers crossed for you.
