How loud is your washing machine?

We have an open plan downstairs and our is so loud we can't hear the TV or anyone speaking when it's spinning.

I'm sure it's not supposed to be this loud. Maybe on it's way out?

Our house is rented so have no idea how old the machine is.

is it completely stable on floor?
is the load balanced and not overloaded?

yep to above - it is possible that the balance weights have moved.

it might be on way out. it might just be a loud machine that echos in the open plan layout.

We deliberately bought a very quiet one because we are also open plan! It sounds like it may be on its way out - do you have an option on replacing it yourself, or are you stuck with what's provided?

It's actually getting louder with each wash whatever the load is. Jet plane style now.

I will speak to our landlord and ask his opinion as to balance weights re-aligning etc. or alternatives (he is a good one).

Ours is very loud (7yo, need new one, can't afford it) but I noticed that it is a lot quieter on the Delicates cycles. So I wash everything as a Delicate and that helps keep the jet plane noise level down (for now!)

If it sounds like a jet plane; then the concrete weights that stop the machine wandering across the floor have probably come loose.

If it's not still under warranty it's probably not worth fixing.Sad

You can get direct drive ones without a belt that are almost silent (my parents have one and it's amazing).

Ours is pretty loud - we're also open-plan downstairs and when it's spinning we struggle to watch TV. Not as bad as yours sounds though.

ours sounds like a plane preparing for take off too. I'm getting to the point where i would consider selling a kidney for a seperate laundry room.......especially with winter approaching and the impending daily tumble drying that comes with it!
