Fed up with the sub-standard fresh food Sainsbury's keep sending us and the Tesco site is too sloooow (does anyone else find this?). What is Asda fook like?

Ocado is the way forward. We try to get all our meat and veg from Ocado because it's all really good quality, it has a decent shelf life on it and it tastes really nice. More importantly, it saves us cash.

I only buy stuff that is either on offer or Tesco price matched or when I have a discount code. We've worked out that as we now chuck nothing away because it's gone rancid within 24 hours of buying it, we end up spending less on Ocado shops than Tesco ones. Sainsbury's is quite expensive IMO so you should definately find a saving. If you sign up to Ocado, you should get a discount off your first shop. They will then send you a discount every time you don't place an order, so if you miss a week you might get a 15 or 20% off voucher sent.

I love it (and me and DH are chefs so we're picky as well as skint!)

Sorry, in answer to OP, yes it is rubbish.

Fifichef · 30/09/2010 10:51

Supermarkets fruit and veg is far too expensive. I aree that Lidl is very good value - cheap and fresh. If you haven't a local greengrocer then Lidl is the way to go.

malovitt · 30/09/2010 10:55

Asda food is noticeably poorer in quality than other supermarkets imho.

I would never buy food there again.

Yes

I completely do not recommend ASDA I brought fruit and veg and in a total of 3 days they went all mouldy once in their chicken soup I had found a bone eww I certainly was not impressed

I like asda instore but not online, used to go loads but nearly every single time I got subs. Never go there now, Morrisons online is the best I've had, never had items missing or subs but thats mainly becauae it comes from the warehouse & not the actual store.

Cherylemma76 · 13/04/2014 13:09

That's why I stopped online with them.

That's why I stopped online with them.

I haven't noticed any difference between Asda and Tesco.

I also haven't noticed the Tesco site being slow, except on a Sunday night. I'd persist with Tesco, their site search, favourites etc is all very easy to use. Also they do 1hr slots, do Asda?

Nocomet · 13/04/2014 13:37

Mostly as good as Tesco and cheaper.

Own brand stuff has got better over the years.

Selection of meat in my local one is really poor, given it's a huge shop.

HopefulHamster · 13/04/2014 14:27

I don't like Asda food and find the big stores overwhelming. But it's cheap.

We used to use Tesco until it stopped being good value. Sainsbury's is okay but our local one is quite small and the Lidl here isn't great.

Now we use Ocado, which might be more expensive product by product, but I find ordering online means I question every item and I've really cut down on unnecessary food and wasted stuff - it's cheaper too.

gobbin · 13/04/2014 22:52

Fuck me some of you lot are really, really picky. Clearly never brought up on Kwik Save in the 70s. Nobody died ffs. Nay, we were even quite healthy! Cooking from scratch is the key.

Asda's meat is fine, especially their chicken. Much better than Sainsbury's. Tesco has better pork joints though. Their veg is fine too. Morrison's is often fresher, but really, it isn't going to kill you. Plan for the week sensibly and it will last.

Too many supermarkets all banging out their advertising is leaving people incapable of making a fricking decision. Go in shop or order online, buy food, cook/eat. Job done.

Nocomet · 14/04/2014 00:52

I'm not saying the meat in ASDA is bad, it isn't. But the choice is very small and unimaginative.

NaiceAm · 14/04/2014 01:34

They sell something called American Chip Spice which is AMAZING - for that alone I love Asda
