This happened to me about 2 weeks ago.

Called Environmental Health and they reccomended Jeyes Fluid so I bought the one in the tin which you're meant to dilute but i just poured it down all the sides neat and what was left of the tin in the bottom so it killed everything on the way down and then got them in the bottom. Worked a treat and the smell lingered for a week or so and kept all the flies away etc.

You called environemntal health about maggots??? I did not know people were so concerned about maggots. You constantly have them in the bin in Australia.
Just use hot/boiling water to kill them. Bleach if you have a desire to disinfect your rubbish bin.

Well there were so many of them that I knew would turn to flies at any moment that yes I thought I'd better. They were really helpful.

That's funny, i lived in new Zealand and never got them, and all through the really hot weather here we haven't had any but now its not even that hot and my Bin is alive with them.

I will get DP to sort it, i do Spiders and other legged Creatures he does things with no legs, Maggots/Slugs and Snails.

If you think that is gross, in our University house we discovered them in the kitchen Shock. We lived with some guys who were so gross we females went on strike and refused to clear up after them = maggots.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 20/09/2010 14:57

If they had been in my Flat i would have cried and run away very fast.

we get them regularly due to fortnightly bin collections. we used to wash bin out and bleach etc but now we just leave them - they get taken away by bin lorry on the whole (alwuys apear close to collection day) and then the rst just die or turn into flies.
