Washing pillows

Does it ever work.
All the time mine come out lumpy and mis-shapen.
I have to wash DDs very often as she sweats profusely. Her small cot bed pillow gets replaced a bit too often for my liking esp as it's from the White Co and ££.

my mum always told me to put small stitch in each corner of pillow so that inside cant buckle and twist when washed maybe that might help?

moragbellingham · 18/09/2010 19:45

I'm willing to give it a go.
I presume you mean stitch the ends together (temporarily) ?

not quite, erm, put a single stitch (one in each corner) through the pillow so that it keeps the filling in place.that way it cant wriggle and warp inside the cover. sorry am rubbish at explaining. would you believe am even worse with directions LOL

hope this diagram helps (its the pillow) the
"X" is where i put the stitches makes sure they go through the pillow and come out the other side to hold the filler in place :)

Do you use pillow covers? Easier to remove and wash than the whole pillow.
Putting your pillow in the freezer is a way to kill of dust mites etc I believe.

Last time I washed mine, I put a load of dryer balls in the wash with them, to sort of pummel the filling and keep it from bunching up. Seemed to work. I suppose it really depends on what your pillows are filled with. Balls are fine for down or polyester, but no idea what they'd do to foam.

I see what you mean now.

Sewing it into a teeny ball would obviously not work and not really clean it properlyGrin
